landscape for children | schluderns italy | 2012 project

the town centre of the village schluderns is the main focus for all generations of residents. the creche, the primary school, the youth center, the community centre, the rectory, the nursing home and the church with its cemetery are all located alongside two main pathways and the various adjoining public squares. the compact but subdivided volume of the new building is placed between the cubically shaped primary school and the community centre. the building's interior is laid out as a reference to the sequential arrangement of voids and volumes that chracterzises the town centre. consequently the architecture of the new building reflects the town centre's grown structure while simultaneously transforming its scale. the severeal functions of the building are combined to form spacial units that are collectively covered by a shared green roof and that are surrounded by open spaces of varying desings.
